Kevin Harvick, the 2014 NASCAR Cup Series champion, will race against his 13-year-old son, Keelan, on Saturday, June 12, at Stateline Speedway.

What's happening?

The event is part of the Road to the Idaho 200, which features 37 drivers, including Harvick and his son.

Kevin Harvick, now a semi-retired driver, is the owner of the Kevin Harvick Incorporated race team.

Why it matters for Kevin Harvick

Keelan, who drives the No. 62 late model, is currently 14th in points on the Cars Tour West Series after two of the nine races.

The Road to Idaho 200 is the next stop in the CARS Tour West, which has a nine-race schedule on racetracks in Idaho, Washington, and Colorado.

What comes next?

Gates will open at 4 p.m. on Saturday, and general admission tickets are available at RaceIdaho.com, although most reserve seating has sold out.

Kevin Harvick's resume includes the 2001 and 2006 Xfinity Series championships, as well as the 2007 Daytona 500, with 121 combined national series wins.

And on Thursday, Kevin and Keelan checked out the Speedway in advance of the race.

So the excitement is building for the event, with Speedway general manager Matt Alexander saying, “The first time we’ve had a NASCAR Cup champion not just show up, but race at Stateline.

Keelan said, “It’s really cool, because I’ve watched him my whole life, and all the things that he’s teaching me, it’s really cool to apply those on the track with him.”

Kevin Harvick said of racing against his son, “It’s fun, yeah, we have a good time doing that.

The field for The Road to Idaho 200 has 37 drivers, including Harvick and his son, and the competition is expected to be fierce.

Alexander encouraged fans to attend, saying, “Show up, tell a friend, bring a friend, we’re locally owned, we’re a small staff that puts on great events.”

Kevin Harvick and his son Keelan have competed against each other several times before, and this event promises to be an exciting one.

The event will take place on Saturday, June 12, at Stateline Speedway, with gates opening at 4 p.m.
